In terms of chemical resistance, 90 durometer nitrile is similar in every respect to that of the 70 durometer variety. The primary advantages of a harder material (90 vs. 70 durometer) is that it results in a  higher modulus, thus improving wear and extrusion resistance. In applications involving high internal pressure, the use of a 90 durometer compound can sometimes obviate the need for back-up rings.
